Compare Green Slips in NSW: All Six Insurers, Price Check

Quick answer
- SIRA lists six licensed NSW CTP insurers (list updated 13 April 2026). In alphabetical order they are AAMI, Allianz, GIO, NRMA, QBE and Youi. Every green slip gives the same level of cover, but prices differ.
- SIRA's free Green Slip Price Check shows quotes from all six. Searching with your licence or billing number gives the most accurate result, and SIRA says to confirm the price with the insurer before you buy.
- Insurers must quote any vehicle that needs CTP, must let you get a quote without giving your identity or rego, and must show the pricing factors they used on the quote.
Ask two insurers to price the same car for the same driver and the green slip quotes can be a long way apart. That's normal in NSW. The cover is set by law and is the same whoever sells it, so the price is the one thing that changes. This page lists the six licensed insurers in one dated table, explains how SIRA's free Green Slip Price Check works and covers what a green slip quote has to show. We read the SIRA, Service NSW and insurer pages behind it on 30 October 2026.
GreenSlipInsurance.com.au is a general information site operated by Dominet BV. This page is general information only and is not financial, legal or insurance advice. It does not consider your objectives, financial situation or needs. We are not an insurer or broker, we don't sell green slips and we don't recommend any insurer. SIRA (the State Insurance Regulatory Authority) is the official source of green slip information in NSW, so check its website or your insurer before you act. Facts were checked on 30 October 2026. Read our general information notice. We don't run a quote tool. The Price Check is SIRA's, and only an insurer can sell you a green slip.
The six licensed green slip insurers
SIRA's list of CTP insurers (updated 13 April 2026) names six insurers licensed to sell green slips in NSW. SIRA says they offer quotes online or over the phone. The table puts them in alphabetical order. The company names in the second column come from the legal notices on each insurer's own website, read on 30 October 2026.
| Insurer (as listed by SIRA) | Company named on the insurer's site | Insurer's own NSW CTP page | Our fact sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| AAMI | AAI Limited, trading as AAMI | aami.com.au | AAMI green slip facts |
| Allianz | Allianz Australia Insurance Limited | allianz.com.au | Allianz green slip facts |
| GIO | AAI Limited, trading as GIO | gio.com.au | GIO green slip facts |
| NRMA | Insurance Australia Limited, trading as NRMA Insurance | nrma.com.au | NRMA green slip facts |
| QBE | QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited | qbe.com | QBE green slip facts |
| Youi | Youi Pty Ltd | youi.com.au | Not yet published |
A few things to read into the table, and a few not to:
- The order means nothing. It's alphabetical. We don't rank insurers or suggest one over another.
- AAMI and GIO are issued by the same company. Both sites name AAI Limited as the issuer.
- NRMA Insurance and the NRMA motoring club are different companies. NRMA Insurance's own site says so.
- The links are plain links. They go straight to each insurer's own page, with no affiliate or tracking code.
SIRA also says to buy only from a licensed insurer or its authorised representative. If a site or seller isn't on SIRA's list and isn't acting for an insurer that is, check before you pay.
What's the same and what differs
SIRA's Compare Green Slip prices page puts it plainly: all green slips have the same level of CTP cover, but they may not cost the same. A dearer green slip doesn't buy more cover.
What differs is how each insurer prices risk. SIRA's How prices are set page (updated 15 January 2026) lists the kinds of rating factors insurers may use, such as drivers' ages, driving history and demerit points, claims history, the vehicle's age, where it's kept, and whether you have comprehensive insurance. Each insurer weighs these differently within limits SIRA sets. Every price is made up of the insurer's premium, the Fund Levy and GST. Our green slip cost guide breaks those parts down.
Some insurers also describe extra features or discounts on their own pages. Where we could check them on the insurer's site, they're on our fact sheets, dated and attributed. We haven't compared them against each other.
If you want to know how insurers handle claims, SIRA publishes a quarterly CTP insurer claims experience and customer feedback comparison. The latest listed on SIRA's compare the performance of CTP insurers page (updated 15 October 2026) covers June 2026. We link to SIRA's report rather than pick figures out of it, so you see the full set in SIRA's own words.
How to compare prices with the Price Check
The Green Slip Price Check is run by SIRA. It's free and shows quotes from all the licensed insurers for your vehicle. Service NSW links to the same tool from its Use the Green Slip Price Check page (last published 29 January 2026).
It's a price comparison only. SIRA doesn't sell green slips, and you still buy from the insurer.
The three ways to search
SIRA and Service NSW describe three ways to search. The one you pick changes how close the result is to what you'll pay.
| Method | What you enter | Accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| Licence or billing number | Your NSW licence number or your billing number | Most accurate |
| Rego or VIN | The vehicle's number plate or vehicle identification number | In between |
| No rego | Vehicle and driver details, without identifying yourself | Least accurate (anonymous) |
The anonymous option suits a car you haven't bought yet. Expect the figure to move once an insurer has your real details.
Step by step
- Open the Price Check and pick a search method from the table above.
- Enter the vehicle details, the youngest driver's age, and the driving history it asks for.
- Look at the list of quotes. Each one is for the same level of CTP cover.
- Before you buy, confirm the price with the insurer you choose. SIRA says the Price Check figure may differ from the price on the insurer's own website.
- Buy from the insurer, online or over the phone, then renew or register the vehicle.
Why the result can differ from the insurer's price
- you used the anonymous search, so the insurer didn't have your full details
- a driver's age, where the vehicle is kept or the vehicle details were entered differently
- older demerit offences still count. Service NSW says offences in the past 3 years and 4 months can affect the price, even if the points have since come off your licence
Getting a green slip quote
You don't have to use the Price Check. You can ask any of the six insurers for a quote directly, through the links in the table.
What a quote needs
SIRA's How to buy a Green Slip page (updated 17 April 2025) lists what insurers ask for:
- Vehicle: number plate, and the VIN or chassis number
- You: your licence or photo card number
- Drivers: the age of the youngest person who'll drive the vehicle
- History: demerit points
Get these right. SIRA says giving wrong information can lead to an adjustment charge, your registration being cancelled with reinstatement fees, and penalties.
What insurers must do when they quote
SIRA's Motor Accident Guidelines (version 10.1, from 12 December 2025) set rules for every licensed insurer. Insurers:
- must not refuse to quote for any vehicle that needs CTP
- must let you get a quote without identifying yourself or giving a rego number
- must make reasonable efforts to help you give accurate information
- must offer at least one way to pay that's available 24 hours a day, seven days a week
What a quote must show
Under the same guidelines, quotes and renewal notices have to list the pricing factors the insurer applied, explain how to raise a factor that's wrong, and name the licensed insurer. Green slips for private cars and motorcycles must show those factors too, such as the youngest driver's age and the vehicle's age.
So when a quote comes back, read the factors before you pay. If one is wrong, tell the insurer first.
After you buy
Once you pay, the insurer sends your CTP details to Transport for NSW electronically, so there's usually no paper slip. Then you renew or register the vehicle. The green slip term has to match the rego term, so a 6 month rego needs a 6 month green slip.
SIRA says your CTP insurance isn't valid until the vehicle is registered, so don't stop at the green slip. Our renewal guide covers the order of steps and the deadlines. If you later sell the vehicle or cancel the rego, our refund guide explains what happens to the policy.
What this page and the Price Check don't do
- Neither sells anything. You buy from the insurer.
- Neither covers your car. CTP covers injuries to people, not damage to vehicles or property. Third party property and comprehensive insurance are separate products, explained in our green slip vs comprehensive guide.
- Neither locks in a price. The insurer confirms the final amount.
- We don't say which insurer to pick. That depends on your price and your own view of each insurer, and nothing here weighs those for you.
Frequently asked questions
How many insurers sell green slips in NSW?
Six, according to SIRA's list updated 13 April 2026: AAMI, Allianz, GIO, NRMA, QBE and Youi.
Is the green slip Price Check free?
Yes. It's SIRA's official tool, it's free, and it shows quotes from all licensed NSW CTP insurers.
Is the Price Check the same as a comparison website?
No. It's run by the NSW regulator, it shows every licensed insurer, and it doesn't sell anything.
Can I get a green slip quote without a rego number?
Yes. Insurers have to quote you without your rego or your identity, and the Price Check has an anonymous option. SIRA describes the anonymous search as the least accurate.
Will I pay exactly the price the Price Check shows?
Not always. SIRA says the price may differ from the insurer's own site, so confirm it with the insurer before you buy.
Does a dearer green slip give better cover?
No. SIRA says all green slips have the same level of CTP cover.
