AAMI is one of the six insurers licensed to sell green slips in NSW. This fact sheet pulls together what SIRA and AAMI's own website say about buying, renewing and cancelling an AAMI green slip, with the date we read each page. There's no rating or opinion here, just what we could check.
GreenSlipInsurance.com.au is a general information site operated by Dominet BV. This page is general information only and is not financial, legal or insurance advice. It does not consider your objectives, financial situation or needs. We are not an insurer or broker, we don't sell green slips and we don't recommend any insurer. SIRA (the State Insurance Regulatory Authority) is the official source of green slip information in NSW, so check its website or your insurer before you act. Facts were checked on 30 October 2026. Read our general information notice. This fact sheet only uses facts from SIRA and AAMI's own website. It isn't a review, and it doesn't compare AAMI with other insurers.

What an AAMI green slip covers
SIRA says all green slips have the same level of CTP cover, but they may not cost the same. So the cover you get from AAMI is the cover set by the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017, the same as from any other licensed insurer. It covers injury and death caused by your vehicle. It doesn't cover damage to cars or property. Anyone hurt in a crash, including an at-fault driver, can apply for statutory benefits, with limits for people mostly at fault. Our green slip NSW guide and CTP benefits guide explain the cover in full.
AAMI's CTP page (read 30 October 2026) also says caravans and trailers are covered by the CTP green slip of the vehicle towing them, and its FAQ adds that the trailer or caravan needs to be roadworthy.
Getting an AAMI green slip quote
AAMI's NSW CTP page has an online quote and lets you retrieve a saved quote. Its renewal page says paying for a saved quote online needs the quote number from the email AAMI sent you, the youngest driver's date of birth and your postcode.
AAMI's page also suggests checking a few things before you quote: whether any driver has a provisional licence, any licence suspensions or cancellations, demerit points and at-fault accidents, the youngest driver's date of birth, and how many kilometres the vehicle is driven. Those match the kinds of rating factors SIRA says insurers may use.
Every licensed insurer, AAMI included, has to follow SIRA's Motor Accident Guidelines (version 10.1, from 12 December 2025). Insurers must not refuse to quote for a vehicle that needs CTP, must let you get a quote without identifying yourself or giving a rego number, and must list on the quote the pricing factors they used. If a factor on your quote is wrong, raise it before you pay.
Renewing an AAMI green slip
AAMI's renewal page (read 30 October 2026) lists these ways to renew:
- Online. You'll need your renewal notice from AAMI, your renewal notice from Transport for NSW, your Payment Reference Number (PRN) and an email address. AAMI says that once you've paid, it sends your green slip to Transport for NSW immediately. The page notes a $5,000 limit for online payments.
- My Account. You can pay or edit policy details, including the renewal term, driver details and driving history.
- Phone. AAMI lists phone lines for card payments and renewals.
- Australia Post Post Billpay. You pay with your PRN at a post office, online, by phone or in the AusPost app. AAMI says the eGreenslip can take up to two business days to reach Transport for NSW.
The same page reminds you that a car more than five years old may need a safety inspection (pink slip) before renewal, and your Transport for NSW renewal notice will say if it does. Our green slip vs pink slip guide explains the difference.
6 or 12 month terms
SIRA says green slips are generally sold for 12 or 6 months, and the NSW Government says the green slip term must match the rego term. AAMI's My Account lets you change the renewal term. For a 6 month rego, the CTP and rego have to be paid no later than 21 days after the rego expires. Our renewal guide has the detail.
Cancelling and refunds
The AAMI pages we read on 30 October 2026 didn't set out AAMI's own cancellation steps. SIRA's general process applies to every insurer: cancel the registration first, keep the letter or receipt Service NSW gives you, and send it to your CTP insurer to ask for a refund of the unused CTP. The insurer works out any refund from the cancellation date and may take out an administration fee. Our green slip refund guide walks through it.
Selling or buying a vehicle
A green slip stays with the vehicle's registration, so when a registered car is sold, the CTP goes with it to the new owner. There's no refund just because you sold the car. Our buying and selling guide covers transfers and unregistered vehicles.
Making a CTP claim
A CTP claim goes to the insurer of the vehicle at fault, which may not be AAMI. AAMI's CTP page has a link to make a claim online, and its FAQ explains how to lodge an NSW CTP claim. Our CTP claims guide covers the steps and time limits.
Checking the price against other insurers
AAMI is one of six licensed insurers, and prices differ between them for the same cover. SIRA's free Green Slip Price Check shows quotes from all six for your vehicle, and SIRA says to confirm the price with the insurer before you buy. Our compare green slips page lists all six insurers in alphabetical order and explains how the Price Check works. SIRA also publishes a quarterly claims experience and customer feedback comparison of the insurers. The latest one we found covers June 2026.
What we left out
- Phone numbers. We don't publish phone numbers or email addresses on this site. AAMI's own NSW CTP page has its current contact details.
- Prices. Green slip prices depend on your details, so we don't quote any. Use the Price Check or AAMI's own quote.
- Marketing claims. AAMI's page includes statements about its history, claims team and community partnerships. We left them out because we can't check them against SIRA.
- Cancellation steps specific to AAMI. We didn't find them on the pages we read, so we haven't guessed.
