NRMA is one of the six insurers licensed to sell green slips in NSW, and its green slips are sold by NRMA Insurance. This fact sheet covers what SIRA and NRMA Insurance's own NSW CTP page say about quotes, renewals, extra cover, cancelling and claims. We read the page on 30 October 2026.
GreenSlipInsurance.com.au is a general information site operated by Dominet BV. This page is general information only and is not financial, legal or insurance advice. It does not consider your objectives, financial situation or needs. We are not an insurer or broker, we don't sell green slips and we don't recommend any insurer. SIRA (the State Insurance Regulatory Authority) is the official source of green slip information in NSW, so check its website or your insurer before you act. Facts were checked on 30 October 2026. Read our general information notice. This fact sheet only uses facts from SIRA and NRMA's own website. It isn't a review, and it doesn't compare NRMA with other insurers.

NRMA Insurance and the NRMA motoring club are different companies. NRMA Insurance's site says National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited, trading as the NRMA, is separate and independent from Insurance Australia Limited, trading as NRMA Insurance.
What an NRMA green slip covers
SIRA says all green slips have the same level of CTP cover, but they may not cost the same. So the cover you get from NRMA is the cover set by the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017, the same as from any other licensed insurer. It covers injury and death caused by your vehicle. It doesn't cover damage to cars or property. Anyone hurt in a crash, including an at-fault driver, can apply for statutory benefits, with limits for people mostly at fault. Our green slip NSW guide and CTP benefits guide explain the cover in full.
NRMA's page (read 30 October 2026) says it sells green slips for cars, motorcycles and trucks. It says a trailer towed by a registered vehicle with its own green slip doesn't need a separate one, as long as the trailer is roadworthy.
Getting an NRMA green slip quote
NRMA's NSW CTP page has an online quote. NRMA says it will ask about the vehicle and how it's used, your driving history and your claims history.
You can buy a green slip before a vehicle is registered. NRMA says that once you've paid, it notifies Transport for NSW so you can complete the registration.
Every licensed insurer, NRMA included, has to follow SIRA's Motor Accident Guidelines (version 10.1, from 12 December 2025). Insurers must not refuse to quote for a vehicle that needs CTP, must let you get a quote without identifying yourself or giving a rego number, and must list on the quote the pricing factors they used. If a factor on your quote is wrong, raise it before you pay.
Renewing an NRMA green slip
NRMA's page lists four ways to renew:
- Online, using your policy number and postcode
- In the NRMA Insurance app, which also handles payments and renewal reminders
- By phone, with your policy number ready. NRMA says it accepts Visa or Mastercard
- At a branch. NRMA says not all branches accept cash, so check first
NRMA says it sends your green slip to Transport for NSW typically within an hour of payment. It also suggests checking whether the vehicle needs a pink slip before you renew. Our green slip vs pink slip guide explains the inspection.
6 or 12 month terms
NRMA says the term will usually be 6 or 12 months. The green slip term has to match the rego term, and a 6 month rego must be paid within 21 days of expiry. Our renewal guide has the detail.
Cancelling and refunds
NRMA's page (read 30 October 2026) sets out two steps:
- Cancel the registration. Service NSW handles this, and you'll get documents from Service NSW confirming it's done.
- Cancel the green slip. Once you have those documents, NRMA says you can complete its CTP cancellation form and send it by email or post (the details are on the form), cancel over the phone, or go to a branch.
NRMA's page doesn't state a refund amount or fee. SIRA's general rules on refunds of unused CTP are in our green slip refund guide.
Selling or buying a vehicle
NRMA says that if you're selling the vehicle, you may not need to cancel the registration or the green slip, because the green slip transfers to the new owner. Our buying and selling guide covers transfers.
Making a CTP claim
A CTP claim goes to the insurer of the vehicle at fault, which may not be NRMA. NRMA's page says you can claim online through MyServiceNSW or call its CTP team. Our CTP claims guide covers the steps and time limits.
Other things NRMA says on its page
Driver Protection Cover. NRMA says that, depending on the vehicle, its CTP policies may include Driver Protection Cover at no extra cost. It describes this as defined benefits for an at-fault driver who suffers certain serious injuries. NRMA says it applies to passenger vehicles seating up to nine adults and goods vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes, and not to other vehicles such as motorcycles, taxis, buses, tow trucks and self-driven hire vehicles. The full list of eligible vehicles and benefits is in NRMA's Driver Protection Cover information sheet. This sits on top of the statutory benefits every green slip carries.
Checking the price against other insurers
NRMA is one of six licensed insurers, and prices differ between them for the same cover. SIRA's free Green Slip Price Check shows quotes from all six for your vehicle, and SIRA says to confirm the price with the insurer before you buy. Our compare green slips page lists all six insurers in alphabetical order and explains how the Price Check works. SIRA also publishes a quarterly claims experience and customer feedback comparison of the insurers. The latest one we found covers June 2026.
What we left out
- Phone numbers and email addresses. We don't publish phone numbers or email addresses on this site. NRMA Insurance's own NSW CTP page has its current contact details.
- Market position claims. NRMA's page makes statements about its standing among NSW CTP insurers and about Driver Protection Cover being unique. We left them out because we don't compare insurers.
- Multi-Product Discount. NRMA's page mentions a discount for holding several eligible NRMA Insurance products. It doesn't say clearly whether a green slip counts, so we left it out.
- Prices. We don't quote any.
